This week, we’re diving into some unconventional and experimental Final Fantasy games. Mystic Quest is one of the most maligned games in the franchise, so Jared and I talk about what works, what doesn’t, and why we want to hire the composer for it. Secondly, Jared breaks down Final Fantasy XIV and his 19 days with it, including full story spoilers and developmental history.

What do you get when you combined a scared Mario Bro, a Toad who clearly shouldn’t have a driver’s license, a big spooky hotel, and a man made of goo with nerves of steel? A gosh darn good and fun video game! Jared and I played through Luigi’s Mansion 3, and we talk about how it looks graphically, our impressions on the different floors, why we liked it and what we didn’t like, and how that Symphony of the Night architect apparently got to design a hotel.
Leave a CommentThere was a lot of hype surrounding this game when it came out a few weeks ago, and Jared and I finally got around to trying it. After two hours playing the game, Jared and I were entirely unimpressed. We break down the story, the issues, and why we feel the way we do about this very odd dating simulator commercial.
Leave a CommentWe continue our spooky month with… basketball? Oh, I mean Resident Evil: Damnation, the 2012 CG film starring the one and only Leon S. Kennedy, and he just wants his breakfast. We come up with some great theories on Leon and Ada’s relationship and hilarity ensues. Jared also talks some about his wild experiences with NBA 2K20 Story Mode.
Leave a CommentThis week, Jared and I decided to go back and rewatch one of the most infamous video game-related movies of all time. Final Fantasy: Spirits Within is a crazy film, and we chat about its reputation, whether it holds up at all, and how we interpret one of the final scenes. Also Steve Buschemi is in it.
Leave a CommentThis week, Jared and I decided to get into the spirit of the month and talk about a spooky game–Resident Evil: Revelations 2. We talk about how Jared and I probably should’ve switched roles, that Claire’s character is extremely disappointing here, talk about the creepy child who points a lot, and break down the story of Revelations 2.
Leave a CommentAnybody who knows me knows that I’m a huge fan of Kotaro Uchikoshi’s previous works, the Zero Escape series. This week, we get to chat about his newest game, AI: The Somnium Files. We discuss the story, the mechanics, how Uchikoshi’s writing has evolved, and how it stacks up against my favorites from the Zero Escape series. Jared also talks briefly about Love Live! School Idol Festival ALL STARS since he has been playing the Japanese version of it lately. (And I’m suffering waiting for the English release!)
Leave a CommentWhat a combo, right? This week, Jared and I press Y to Honk, and we talk about how fun it is to cause chaos as a goose in Untitled Goose Game. After that, we discuss Resident Evil: Revelations and how it’s not always fun being on boats, especially when you have zombie-esque folks popping out of the air vents at you.
Leave a CommentThis week, we play two games in which neither of them has the full version out yet. Whoops. First, we start with the Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III demo. Jared and I are huge fans of the Cold Steel series, and the demo gave us a quick intro to what’s happened since II with Rean. We’re both lamenting that we now have to wait a whole month to play it. Then we talked about the first 4 episodes of Life is Strange 2. We discuss the story, our decisions, and how this game has some amazing political commentary. Again, now we wait until later this year to see where it goes, but we’re looking forward to that conclusion.
Leave a CommentThis week, we get another grab bag full of fun and excitement–especially regarding that rad Nintendo Direct! Jared and I are amazed at how the things we stated would never happen happened at the Nintendo Direct that happened last week, so we get super hype about that while we break down the whole Direct. Next, we move into some discussions about the new content in Catherine: Full Body. This includes spoilers of the new endings, so be forewarned on that! Finally, Jared and I discuss how we did a 273 point turn and fought physics in Human: Fall Flat.
